sbarts@bigpond.com5Katie was absolutely fantastic. Very welcoming to new campers, always positive and energetic. Had great ideas in ensemble. Please make sure she comes back. 4Mark was good. However offered no input during ensembles. We just ran through the tunes5Danny was very supportive of campers outside the session. Great ideas presented during ensemble. 3I can really appreciate Dan as a musician. However I think he really missed the mark as a teacher/educator. We were not first year grads at Julliard! I am not sure if he was finding his feet or just felling a bit award. We were not relaxed in his sessions which is unfortunate because he certainly has a lot to offer. He did not demonstrate the secret sauce of the educator. 5If I could rate a 6 here I would. Absolutely the right person for this camp. Loved my lesson and all time spent with Tom. And man can that cat play the clarinet!5Again - another 6. Ray was phenomenal in sessions and very positive. I really appreciated his support in and to slow Jam and admired his support of scholarship campers. Grey guy- very friendly5Words don't express my admiration of Heather. Both as a teacher and musician. Impressive on all fronts and wonderfully supportive to everyone at camp5Really enjoyed my ensemble session with Steve. He is a great contributor to the camp and really positive and informative in sessions5He is an absolute gem this man. Thoroughly enjoyed sessions with him. Really committed to the music and making us sound great. Good fun too5Russ was great in ensembles. Positive and encouraging 5Ben ran our ensembles really well. Very gentle and encouraging. Really enjoyed my session with him. Particularly liked the way he allowed us to 'be in the control seat '5Didn't have direct input from Banu. But I can't say thank you enough. One of the best weeks of my life. 555555No issues here. Staff were lovely and everything went swimmingly. 5555All of them were terrific. Loved Hal's approach. Learnt heaps about working with. Vocalists in Banu's lecture5555555545Slow jams were my favourite part of the whole week. Bourbon O was a change of a lifetime- thank you. I am sure the significance of Preservation Hall has yet to truly sink inYesYesYes55They were great value. Pls get more of them. Slow jamsClarinet tutorials - 5I was a first time camper so everything was simply terrific in my eyes. I would not change the program or approach. A sincere and huge thank you for making it all happen. Hopefully see you all again.

5Katie was so generous at the slow jam and made everyone feel comfortable and welcome.5Heather is an incredible musician, and was tireless in her efforts to help the vocalists work on their songs and make them sound wonderful.5Kris was very patient and really helpful to the vocalists.5What an incredible honor it was to learn from Leah Chase. She's one of those people who makes you want to stop whatever you're doing and really pay attention anytime she speaks. What I appreciated most about her instruction was that she struck the perfect balance of being encouraging without sugar-coating. She gave me the feedback--particularly around conveying feeling and telling a story--that I most needed to hear.5Banu's wealth of experience shines through every moment of her teaching. She's funny, direct, and creates an environment of ease in the classroom. Despite the fact that she had a million tasks to do at every moment while running camp, she was present in our voice classes and took the time to invest in each one of us.5I wish I had had more time to work with Flo. I only got one afternoon class with her, but in that time I internalized two important messages from her: nobody knows what your perfect is, and remember that you sing because it's fun.5I aspire to have the ear and technical attunement that Meryl has. She helped me iron out so many of the techincal questions I had about the tunes I was singing, all of which helped me sound as good as possible. Hearing the feedback she gave the other vocalists also made me a better singer.245425I completely understand that the hotel was short-staffed, but the mornings where the coffee ran out were rough.45525535If there were any way to make the final Friday concert shorter, that would be ideal. Also, I think putting the dance floor in the center of the room with tables on either side would have facilitated more dancing and socializing at the 1920s Prohibition Dance.YesYes55I loved that I had the opportunity to get to know the other vocalists so well, and to have such pointed and ongoing feedback from the teachers.I wish there had been more opportunities during class time to sing with a full band.Thank you for a truly wonderful experience that gave me a confidence boost I didn't know I needed. I hope to come back!
Great appreciation and kudos for the herculean effort put forth to make this event happen.
bernice724@yahoo.com5It's a joy to work with Heather. She's an amazing pianist. I appreciate her musical perspective and the contributions she makes to each individuals performance.5Kris is always willing to give something a try - even when it doesn't follow standard musical practice. He has an infectious calm presence. I'm amazed at how much he remembers with very little time.5It was wonderful to have Leah with us again this year. Hew guidance is always insightful and supportive. She has helped me find my voice. I love her warm-ups.5I didn't get to formally work with Banu as much as usual this year, but her presence and support were still powerful. She has helped me build my confidence and comfort with being on stage.5I've really enjoyed working with Flo over the past couple years. I love the warm-ups she brings to us. Her feedback is always thoughtful and respectful and she brings a kind and supportive presence.5It was fun to work more with Meryl this year. She has definitely challenged and inspired me to explore vocal possibilities, take more risks and have fun.555445Generally speaking the food at camp has been good. This year I thought the food was better than in the past with one major exception. This year there was very little available for our vegan friends to eat and less creativity with their food needs. It almost felt like an afterthought. It would be really nice to have a truly vegan option available with each meal.5555I was wondering about a workshop on female composers of the time and their influence on jazz. I thought it might be fun to learn some of their songs.545555555YesNo55It might be fun to have a special performance by the scholarship students. - I think you actually already did that for a song or two this yearThat I am always encouraged. That camp is a safe place to try new and challenging things. Honest feedback. Being with friends. The lack of creative vegan food options
