Last year Dave Kosmyna gave a lecture on improvisation starting off by discussing My Blue Heaven. The song was composed by Walter Donaldson in 1924, with lyrics written by vaudeville performer Geroge A. Whiting. It was published in 1927 and recorded that same year with great success by both bandleader Paul Whiteman and vocalist Gene Austin, and has remained an enduring popular standard ever since. Dave's lecture is below in the YouTube link. Use the sheet music and Dave's insights to explore improvisation on this song.
